Clinical notes written in your own voice

Dictate or type your raw notes at the chair. Smile PreVue drafts the clinical note the way you write it, you review and sign, then copy it into your practice software. Your notes, your voice, a fraction of the typing.

The short version

Note writing is the part of the day nobody went to dental school for. The visit takes forty minutes and the chart note eats another ten, usually after the patient has left and the details are already fading.

Smile PreVue takes the raw version, a quick dictation or a few lines of shorthand, and writes the full note the way you would have written it. Not a template. Your structure, your terminology, your sign-off, learned once from your own past notes.

You stay the author. The draft only contains what you said, anything missing is flagged for you to confirm, and the finished note is one tap from your practice software. Here is how it works, how it learns your style, and where the data lives.

From the chair to the chart in four steps

Record or type at the chair

Tap the microphone on the iPad and talk through the visit, or type your shorthand. Tooth numbers, surfaces, materials, and anesthetic amounts are captured as you said them, and the raw transcript is always one tap away.

Confirm the case type

Smile PreVue suggests the case type from what you said, from a new patient exam to veneers, endo, an extraction, or a post-op check. Confirm it or pick another.

Review a note that sounds like you

The draft follows your own structure, tense, abbreviations, and sign-off. Anything you did not say shows up as a placeholder to confirm, never as an invented finding.

Copy into your practice software

One tap copies the finished note. Paste it into the chart in whatever practice management software you already use. The note and the recording stay on the patient record in Smile PreVue.

Your style, not a template

Every dentist writes differently. Some chart in first person, some in clipped clinical shorthand, some end every note with the plan and the next visit. A template flattens all of that into the same paragraph, which is why templated notes read like they were written by someone else.

Setup takes a few minutes and happens once. Add a handful of your past notes in whatever form you have them: a PDF export, a Word document, pasted text, or a photo of a printed note. Different case types help most. Smile PreVue reads them and shows you a short, plain-language summary of how you write along with a sample note in your voice.

If it sounds like you, tap once and you are done. If not, tell it what is off in a sentence and it adjusts. Each provider in the practice has their own style, and the style keeps improving from the edits you make before you copy a note out.

Built for HIPAA, and for the dentist who signs

Notes and recordings are protected health information and are treated that way. Everything lives on the patient record inside Smile PreVue, on Google Cloud under a Business Associate Agreement, with the same clinic isolation, encryption, and audit logging that protects your smile previews and consent records.

The recording is kept with the note and can be played back on demand by your signed-in team, and opening a recording is logged. The raw transcript is always visible next to the finished note, so you can check exactly what was heard. Delete the note, the patient, or the account, and the audio goes with it.

The AI drafts. It never diagnoses, never plans treatment, and never adds a finding, a tooth, a material, or a medication you did not state. The dentist reviews and signs every note. Read more on the security and compliance page.

Works with the practice software you already have

Your practice management system stays the system of record. Smile PreVue does not write into it or replace it. When the note is ready you tap Copy, switch to your chart, and paste. That works with every practice management system, with no integration to set up and nothing for your IT vendor to approve.

Notes are included at no extra cost. See the pricing page for everything that is included.

AI clinical notes FAQ

Does Smile PreVue write my clinical notes for me?

It drafts them. You dictate or type what happened, and Smile PreVue writes it up in your own style. You review the draft, edit anything you want, and sign it in your practice software. The dentist is always the author of record.

Does the AI diagnose or plan treatment?

No. The note documents the diagnosis and plan you already made. The draft only uses facts you dictated or typed. If something a note usually includes was not said, it appears as a placeholder for you to confirm, and it is never filled in with a guess.

How does it learn my writing style?

Once, during setup, you add a few of your past notes in any format: PDF, Word, plain text, pasted text, or a photo of a printed note. Smile PreVue reads them, shows you a short summary of how you write plus a sample note, and you confirm it sounds like you. Each provider in the practice has their own style, and it keeps improving from the edits you make.

Where is the dictation audio stored?

The recording is saved with the patient's note inside Smile PreVue, on HIPAA-compliant infrastructure under a Business Associate Agreement. It can be played back only by your clinic's signed-in team, opening a recording is logged, and it is deleted when the note, the patient, or the clinic account is deleted.

Can an assistant or hygienist dictate for the doctor?

Yes. Any team member can dictate or type the raw notes and pick which provider's style the note should be written in. The provider still reviews and signs the finished note.

Which practice management software does it work with?

Any of them. Smile PreVue does not integrate with or write into your practice management system. You copy the finished note and paste it into the chart, so it works with whatever software your practice already runs.

Is it included in my subscription?

Yes. AI clinical notes are included in your subscription at no extra cost, alongside AI smile previews, patient payments, and financing.

Do I need a new app to dictate?

No. Dictation works in the Smile PreVue iPad app on the latest version and in a desktop browser. Typed notes work everywhere the app runs.
